INDOOR HOCKEY

DL Total Hockey runs indoor hockey courses for junior players and adults at beginner, intermediate and advanced level skills.

Indoor hockey is fast, exciting fun – and a great way to  improve your fitness and stick skills. It’s fast but safe because it’s played with a lighter ball and quicker and sharper than the outdoor game. The playing area is smaller than the outdoor pitch and the team is made up of six players in total – 5 outfield players plus a goalie. Players have more touches on the ball than in traditional outdoor 11 a side making a fast-paced and intense skills booster. Everybody on the pitch is always involved and it can supercharge your receiving, passing and ball carry skills.

Players cannot hit or raise the ball, except in the shooting circle, so must always push or deflect the ball instead. A game usually lasts for two periods of 20 minutes with a break in between. All the technical skills and tactics you learn playing indoor hockey can transfer to your outdoor game. Indeed, it can be seen as a supplement to outdoor training as well as a fantastic game in its own right.

Indoor hockey is suitable for all levels and if you are new to hockey it’s an excellent way for you to develop your hockey skills. It’s played from beginner level right through to international level – click on this link to get a taste of how the game is played by elite teams. However, the principles, rules and fun to be had are the same whatever your skills and experience.
